  1. god bandai why don't you just make more of this "real robot"? its godly compared to all this super real robot we've been getting lately.

about the episode, way to go Karen doing a great job high light of her career right there

    1. Why? Because tastes change (at least in Japan) and Bandai go where to money is. Real robot anime costs more money to make and don't sell as well as it used to. If it did we'd be seeing shows like this coming out left and right. Just be happy we get Gundam shows at all.

      Delete
    2. How does real robot anime cost more to make?
Is there some sort of special animation process they use for real robots?
      That point is bullshit.

      Delete
    3. I think you mean Sunrise. Bandai just sells the merchandise...

    4. They don't make more Real Robot because its dull as hell. Gundam has always blended Super Robot elements well with somewhat realistic limitations, and that is the balance that kicks assn and results in awesome action sequences. Going one way too far or the other results in either this which while fun for 13 episodes would be boring as a full series or 00 which was just became downright stupid by mid season 2.

    5. @Anon 10:33

Detailed mechanics and realistic physics takes more time and effort to animate which is why you only see them in big budget movies and OVAs. Even then nothing today comes close to matching the level of detail in movies like CCA and DYRL from the 80s.

    6. the true "real" robot would be like armored core, or starship trooper mechs. gundam is a war machine with a colorful paintjob, detailed humanoid face(useless), and shooting lazor beams. not to mention the newtype magic powers.

anyway, a humanoid war mech is not realistic at all

      Delete
    7. Yeah agree power armors like starship trooper mechs or iron man are most realistic. Anything bigger than that is a giant moving target that's just asking to be taken down.

      Delete
    8. yes, a humanoid war mech is unrealistic (looks at meow and anon examples); wait all of those have humanoid characteristics, detailed humanoid faces and shoots lazers, fancy that. As for being targets just asking to be taken down, people still use big warships and tanks in real life, and guess what those are giant moving targets just asking to be taken down.

      Delete
    9. Actually a small, human-size mech can be very effective in combat. But a giant several storey-high mech walking on 2 legs is just a nightmare for navigating hazardous terrain. Just ask the ewoks.

      Delete
    10. It would be a whole lot more ineffective and expensive if you equipped a whole army of powersuits; take for example, you could produce and fully equip a ZAKU for the price of 10 fully equipped star-ship trooper armor. The higher-ups would rather pay for a large suit that can take on almost anything, rather than pay for 10 Power-suits that would also get bogged down in said terrain, It wouldn't be cost effective to lose 10 Iron man MK. II suits to crude traps than to lose a ZAKU to said crude trap.

And besides I hate the ewoks (bunch of mary-sues!), a better example would have been the child-soldiers from 00, but they don't suffer from "too cute to be decimated on-screen" syndrome, and reality ensues, as each mech covers the other's back. Much like the Ewoks had the Jedi and rebels, the kids had the O gundam.

      Delete
    11. actually, not about the size, but rather the concept of humanoid itself.

arms and legs are arguably needed. not that you would do mecha close combat n real-life war. a huge gun(like in tanks) with joints for better aiming would do. legs is just.. for what? you're not going to run and jump that much, not that a huge mech would have that kind of agility anyway. not to mention ground battlefield is more like take position, aim, rain 'em with bullets.

it would also cost hell lots of money just to produce the humanoid frame with all the sophisticated movement. one humanoid in the size of a tank would cost like 5 to 10 times as much as a tank. cost-performance ratio wise, it's a big loss.

this argument has gone too far of the topic anyway, lol

  3. I feel sorry for Karen... I liked her as a character. (Maybe they didn't want to use Mami Koyama's voice? Who knows...)

But it's a fun short video. Really liked the choreography of the battle. I don't mind the more "super robot"-ness of the MSs in other shows, but it's great to see Gundam grounded closer to "reality" like this. And the animation is great.

    1. considering all the super real robot we've been getting lately 00, even more recent Valvrave. its a nice change of pace to see a more reality based robot

      Delete
    2. Watch Broken Blade. That show's more realistic than anything in Gundam.

      Delete
    3. Really? People making large stone golems move by magic is more realistic than gundam?
      Fuck logic right?

      Delete
    4. More realistic than pushing away a giant asteroid with power of your mind anyway.

      Delete
    5. the physics of broken blade feels more real anyways.

      Delete
    6. But Break Blade is exactly that. Rock (quartz) manipulation through thought.

      Delete
    7. in a sense
break blade golems use quartz to control a 'muscle' in their robots
that muscle can only do so much the manufacturer can make it
and in case of protagonist robot, it is an ancient that runs on battery & have MUCH more sophisticated 'muscle'

as far i can see in BB tho, magic in that world consist only moving things very2 slightly, its not really that super powered telekinesis & stuffs

      Delete
    8. Flag on those plays, BB is just like gundam except the majority are newtypes with their quartz manipulation(magic)and a very small part of the population are normal types(w/o magic).

As for realism, BB is just less than or equal to gundam; a robot that slings giant shurikens the size of his mech while fighting a robot that has Ivy's(Soul Calibur) chain-sword thingy is just right below the realism scale as a resulting explosion (that pushes an asteroid) from a overloaded psycoframe that is amplified from all(except maybe char) those dudes focusing on the single job of pushing said asteroid from destroying the earth.

and besides if you want realism in your science-fiction, then you should follow a hobby that has only science as its name, and not one that has -fiction next to it.

      Delete
    9. HAHA Broken blade? That no where near matches the level or realism of Gundam, if you want realistic, besides the series you see right here, Patlabor, VOTOMs, Dougram those are realistic mecha. Broken Blade is just as if not more super-robotish than Gundam is, also we must remember there are many universes, super-robot G Gundam or real-robot UC with many aspects of realism from the fact it has Newtypes with unrealistic magic powers.
That is not to say they aren't good, I don't see why being unrealistic should drag it down, I do believe there's a limit, and UC Gundam stays within that limit, it's called, "consistent" is more fitting term, if you invent a whole new set of physics for a fictional world, it must remain consistent.

  4. 08th MS team and Stardust memory was for me the best when it comes to battle choreography. This one was good but nothing compared to EZ-8 vs Gouf custom battle!

      Delete
    3. Especially legs, on both Gundams they look so thin...
I think, 08th MS Team is one of the best in Gundam franchise. To me this short is pretty decent action-wise. Ez8 struggling with inertia of big heavy gun is particularly nice touch.

    1. We will love other series other than UC, if Bandai could make the story become more reality, and not dream like (always a children without proper training, could drive a super robot, and kill others well-trained soldier) a WAR could not be controlled by only 1 main character, that why meed Army, need Team, need backline support like 08th MS Team do.

You no interest on this because the Ez-8 have no wings? wings can give ability because it has thruster on it, not because it can fly like a bird..XD

      Give a door for yourself.

All UC fans watch SEED, W , X , G, Turn A, AGE as well, not they discriminate new things.

    3. Ignore the troll. I like all series, 08th MS Team is the most realistic entry in the Gundam franchise, the only thing that could top it is if they make a series like VOTOMs or Gasaraki, both by Sunrise.

  15. Everyone is saying that this is more "real robot" style, but the EZ8 is actually much stronger here than it was in the OVA. That direct shot the EZ8 took in the chest should have taken it out of the game. The Ground Gundam took the same shot and was disabled

Despite my ranting, I know that it would cost more money to make this battle as detailed as the battles in the OVA.

This was well executed and fun to watch

    1. well i don't think so, didn't the EZ8 take a mountain melting beam to the face and walk it off?

    2. Ez8 has more and stronger armor in its chest. That's why it shrugged it off and the standard did not.

      Delete
    3. Besides the aforementioned stronger chest armor, I believe the Ez8 was firmly planted into the ground with that knee piece, that's probably why it didn't fall back.
I do agree that this short clip has a pretty OP Ez8 but that's probably to help sell the new HGUC. Things like that are what make ME buy kits anyways xD

      Delete
    4. The Ground Gundam wasn't disabled, Karen just got knocked out. Gundam's armor in general during the one year war was generally stronger and can take more shots than gm's and zakus

      Delete
    5. @ anon 8:03. The zaku was using a magella top cannon. It's not the first time the Ez8 took a magella hit too the chest. It happen in the episode wherw Karen got jumped by the acguy. Sanders and Shiro took on the magella tank team. The Ez8 has higher stats then the standard ground gundam so it can take more abuse.

      Delete
    6. yep, agree with bransen2099. the ground gundam wase barely scratched just like ez8, it's just the pilot was knocked unconscious because being not battle-ready when being hit by that caliber of bullet

      Delete
  16. I don't really see why people are complaining about this as being totally "super robot." Save the moment when he pulled out the beam saber (which was a little much), it all seemed to be well within the ability of "real robot" Gundam from the Universal Century. Plus the entire thing was awesome!

    1. wasn't there a scene in the OVA were Shiro turns the beam saber to its lowest heat and instantly melted the ice water into spa water? I mean these beam saber are meant to cut through solid metal with little easy pushing back some water doesn't seem too crazy. but in all seriousness it was just for show to make the EZ8 even more badass than it already is

  18. hi, seed fan here. I came lookin at the comment to just to expect too many praises but I was wrong. u guys also got your retarded haters and are trying to defend uc as much as u can (now u know how we seed fans feel) I also notice u ucfans got yr ucfags and also tring to defend other series from them so I respect u 4 dat.

my tots for the vid. this vid showd a great example of strategy in a battlefield instead of skills like wat I usually get in seed, 00 etc but at the beginning the show was kinda boring like wen I watch wing (not saying I was bored wen I c hero yuy fightin). I dunno I think its either the music or that is just how old movies are like.

    p.s. this remaster is beautiful

  19. I don't really see why anyone is bashing other series here. You should just enjoy the animation and consider it a tribute to gundam.

  21. Sigh.. I personally couldn't care less about realism in Gundam because the very idea of giant humanoid robot is bullshit and makes no sense from a military standpoint.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Pretty good video, a great chance to see some more of the awesome 08th MS Team in action. Good 'ol Vietnam with Gundams
But I really didn't care for the complete ineffectiveness of the Zeons though. It's anime, it was obvious who was going to win in the end, but the Zeon bullets just bouncing off. I liked thier ingenuity with using the damage Zaku, but the sniper guy hit the EZ8 dead on, hardly a scratch. The EZ8 suffered very little but superficial damage despite the Gouf catching it from behind again and again and pounding it with its machine gun. As a Zeon fanboy i am resigned to watching my favourite characters get beaten again and again, but it would be nice to see them actually do some real damage and shome more than just ingenuity and skill that is ultimately pounded to dust versus the Feddies plot armour.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why are people saying Ez8 just went super robot style?

Look at the Ez8's chest armor! It got wrecked! Shiro's bleeding like karen! The Ez8 didn't fall over because it was kneeling on the ground, unlike the Ground Gundam. Sure, the shots on the back on the Ez8 did nothing but the Gouf Flight mostly shot the backpack!

Really, the fun of watching 08th MS Team is not how well each pilot doesbut rather the tactics they employ as a team on both sides, the Feds and Zeon.Karen wasn't knocked out the fight would be over in 30 seconds.

    1. Fuck team work, one man army is the best. Why? You have to be good to be able to pull it out, team work, you are still depended on your teammate. When they are down, you have to take care of them like Karen in this case.

This is what I dislike about UC despite the fact that i love it, its all about the 'feelings' of human, fuck people, i hate people. In Unicorn Ep 5 for example when Audery jump out and somehow Banagher heard her voice... that would be creepy as fuck

    2. 'somehow'? they're newtypes, it's not surprising.

Seriously? If someone said that to me IRL, i would puke on that person

    4. Well that's your preference, I don't like the psychic ubermensch like Newtypes and Innovators either, they drag Gundam into the realm of magic fantasy. Here there's ordinary soldiers, both in the aspect of not being ace pilots (except for Norris Packard who is AWESOME) and in the aspect of being regular humans with no special powers.

  26. well it was good while it lasted

    ReplyDelete
  27. That was horrible. Shiro takes down a medium-long range stationary target and the Gouf flight-type pilot calls him an ace? Are you kidding me? And Shiro proved he's entirely incompetent and reliant on the hardware. If the EZ8 weren't made of Gundarium he would be dead, same goes for Karen. It makes them look like scrubs. And since when the hell can beam sabers SPLIT rivers/ravines like Moses. It's not like he even put the saber in the water, it was held up in the air. And just how the hell did that Gouf flight-type outright tank the shots from the EZ8's machine gun anyway? And why did the Gouf explode? It was hit in the cockpit. And if it did explode how did the EZ8 come out unscathed? The MS in UC explode into a nuclear blaze.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I cant tell if your trolling or just a mad person because this wasn't the way you wanted it to go.
First off, it takes some skill to take out a long range target like that with one shot. Might not really be an ace but the Gouf pilot probably recognized Shiro for not being a complete noob.
Second, there's no Gundarium in UC, you've been watching to much Wing my friend. And the armor plating is just that much better in Gundam since more production has gone into them than GMs and Zakus
Third, look again, the EZ-8's thrusters are pushing down on the water, not the beam saber and YES the Ez'8 can do that since it was outfitted when the ground gundam became the Ez-8.
Fourth, Goufs have been made more stronger than Zaku "This is no Zaku boy, no Zaku!" ring a bell.
and Finally fifth, the gouf exploded cause the cockpit has all of the major components linked there. The system probably overloaded and caused a chain reaction. And again the Ez-8 is a gundam AND MS's only explode with a nuclear power only when they overload the reactor Gundam UC Episode: Into the Gravity Well when the Zaku sniper tried to blow itself up

      Delete
    2. I'm going to take this opportunity to nitpick. There absolutely IS Gundarium in UC. It's a further refined version of Lunar Titanium (which the Ez8 and all other OYW Gundams are made from). Most non-OYW Gundams are made of it. Gundam Wing used the similarly named "Gundanium."

      Delete
    3. No, it doesn't take skill to take out a mid-long range target USING A LONG RANGE WEAPON THAT HAS ITS OWN TARGETING SYSTEM FOR LONG RANGES. And one shot could be a fluke, which is the likeliest situation considering Shiro did nothing but flounder while he was being attacked by the Gouf.

Thanks for confirming to me that you have ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE about Gundam. Mahq/mechatalk, wiki, an archive of gundamofficial, whatever.

      http://web.archive.org/web/20120825045757/http://www.gundamofficial.com/worlds/uc/background/glossary_technology.html#gundarium

"A super high-tensile alloy originally known as Luna Titanium. Originally intended for use inside thermonuclear reactors, this alloy's superb strength, durability, heat resistance and radiation-absorbing properties make it an ideal material for mobile suit armor. The alloy is first used in the RX-78 Gundam, and later renamed Gundarium Alpha in honor of this famous mobile suit."

You're literally daft. And the metal used by Wing's Gundams and related MS is GUNDANIUM. You shouldn't even call yourself a Gundam fan. In fact, you should probably turn in your card.

No, the thrusters are NOT pushing down the water. The beam saber is even EXPLICITLY SHOWN splitting the water when it extends. You can either feign blindness or keep on lying right to everyone's faces. The EZ8's thrusters don't even warm up until AFTER they show the beam saber splitting the water and the EZ8's eyes lighting up. Please, spew more nonense.

Goufs being better than a Zaku is of no relevance. Fact of the matter is that the only armor that is capable of shrugging off anti-MS high caliber ammunition is Gundarium yet the Gouf flight type only had its gatling gun damaged.

You're literally speaking nonsense. The reactors and fuel tanks are supposed to be shielded, so the cockpit melting shouldn't have any effect and this has been shown by many other UC shows. Mobile Suit Gundam set the precedent and the other UC shows followed it. Gundarium armor cannot survive a nuclear explosion when it's HUGGING the exploding MS. Pray tell, when do you see large explosions like the one shown if not for the reactor being breached? Pre-Zeta era high powered backpacks at least. And for that matter, why did it explode at all? The cockpit was penetrated. Now that you bring up, did that Zaku sniper violently explode like the Gouf despite taking extensive damage? No, it didn't, only part of it did.

  28. Dude I'm not offended at all just wanna teach and learn as a community. I mean I didn't know Luna is later called Gundarium so kudos to you :)

And I had this whole rebuttle thing typed out but decided to just delete it as it would just lead to more flamming.

All I say is that Gundarium Alpha is developed by Axis and the beam DID split the water, but the thrusters are the ones that kept the water back.

  29. Gotta say this was a bit disappointing. As a fan of the original 008th ms team, I was expecting something a bit more with all the buildup. Maybe that's my fault. The proportions were a bit off in several shots and the animation was kind of bad. I do like that they tried to use the classic coloring palette, but this short was nowhere near the quality of the original OVA.
